President's Message

Growing up in Western Wisconsin as a kid I always remembered seeing the colorful United Way Thermometer displayed downtown. Never really knowing what it meant. I was always intrigued to see how much the indicator had moved since the last time I saw it, and how close they were to their goal. Prior to joining the United Way Board my perception, which had changed from my childhood, was receiving a pamphlet each year asking me to donate money and seeing a deduction taken from my pay check. I knew that the money they raise helped support many well deserving organizations in the area, but that was the extent of my knowledge of the United Way.

After joining the Board last year my perception of what the United Way means changed again. The money raised helps support and fund 23 organizations and 43 programs in Dodge County in areas of basic needs, child development, promoting health and healing, and strengthening individuals and families. Take a moment to click on the Partners Agencies link on this website and see all of the different agencies and programs the United Way helps support. These programs are most likely helping a coworker, neighbor, family member, or a friend.

As a Board we are pleased that in these tough economic times that we were able to maintain our funding levels to all agencies. This is a testament to all the great individuals and corporations in Dodge County that even in tough financial times they were able to find ways to continue to support the United Way.

As Board President for 2010-2011 I look forward to working with many of these great agencies and programs that the United Way supports, as well as the individuals and corporations that make the United Way successful.
